Local businesses are invited to attend a free online workshop organised by Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council’s Urban ABC team, focusing on advice and support to ensure that Every Customer Counts.
UK statistics tell us 75% of disabled people have walked away from a business because of poor accessibility or customer service, Urban ABC hope that this workshop will inform and guide local retailers in making simple and small adjustments to ensure they are inclusive and welcoming to all customers.
The online workshop will take place on Tuesday 12 March at 12.30pm, Wednesday 13 March at 7.30pm, and Thursday 14 March at 8.30am, in the hope that these varying times will suit as many business owners as possible.
It is proven that people will return to a business where they experience excellent customer service. This workshop will cover issues around accessibility for disabled and older people, and how making small improvements for customers could benefit businesses. Some examples of simple amendments include having a menu in larger text for those with sight difficulties, or offering a seat for someone who cannot stand for long periods. There are many ways that a business can offer additional support to their customers.
Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Alderman Margaret Tinsley said:
“We are committed to not only encouraging more people into our town centre businesses but in helping our borough become a more inclusive one. This workshop is one small part of the ongoing work in this area. Our equality and diversity team will deliver the workshop and offer businesses some helpful and practical tips on how to become more accessible to our disabled community. Our Age Friendly Officer will also be there to offer advice on ensuring accessibility for older people.
“I have no doubt that this workshop will be a very informative session and I encourage our local business community to join in and learn more.”
The online workshop is free to attend and open to all businesses. If you would like to register, email the Urban ABC team at and you will be sent an invitation to the zoom online session of your choosing. There will also be additional resources provided for each business to take away.
