Lord Mayor Alderman Margaret Tinsley visited Craigavon Area Hospital and Lurgan Hospital recently to pay tribute to staff working across the health and social care system as the NHS marks 75 years of service this year.

Beginning a series of engagements with NHS Services in the Southern Trust area, the visit to Craigavon Area Hospital saw the Lord Mayor spend time with staff from the Mandeville Unit, the Control Room, Emergency Department, and the Blossom Children and Young People’s Centre, while the visit to Lurgan Hospital saw the Lord Mayor meet staff from the Southern Area Breast Screening Unit.

Commenting on the visit, the Lord Mayor said:

“As we mark the 75th anniversary of the NHS this year, I was incredibly grateful to have the chance to say thank you and acknowledge the contribution of the staff of Craigavon Area Hospital and Lurgan Hospital, who continue to deliver essential services in extremely challenging conditions. And I very much look forward to meeting more NHS staff within the Southern Trust Area throughout my term in office.

“To help support our local NHS services, I would remind anyone with urgent but not life-threatening symptoms who is considering attending Craigavon, Daisy Hill, South Tyrone Emergency Departments or the Minor Injuries Unit to ‘phone first’ from 9am to 9pm, Monday to Friday on 0300 123 3 111. Please also consider if your condition could be treated by your pharmacist or GP. If symptoms can’t wait until your GP reopens, please call Urgent Care (GP) Out of Hours on 028 3839 9201.”
