Last week, Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon, Alderman Margaret Tinsley hosted an online meeting with the Mayor of Ruelle, Jean-Luc Valantin and members of the Banbridge-Ruelle Town Twinning Groups.

The virtual conversation took place as the Banbridge Twinning Association joined their counterparts in Ruelle-sur-Touvre during one of their regular exchange visits; and saw the Lord Mayor share learnings on topics of interest to both councils such as participatory budgeting and intergenerational projects.

Officially twinned in May 1994, with the support of the then Banbridge District Council, the link between Banbridge and the town of Ruelle-sur-Touvre in the Charente area of France has remained as strong as ever. Over the course of nearly three decades the twinning arrangement has helped build connections, relationships, and a greater understanding of respective cultures between the two regions through a range of initiatives such as exchange visits, youth exchanges, and sporting and cultural schemes.
