ABC Council’s Lurgan Townscape Heritage Scheme and Craigavon Historical Society are inviting all heritage enthusiasts to the special Kilmocholmóg archaeology open day taking place this Saturday 01 July.

Join them and find out more about the Kilmocholmóg site in Lurgan, which over the past couple of weeks has seen the team from Northern Archaeological Consultancy along with a whopping 150 community volunteers uncover the remains of an early medieval settlement (400-1100 CE).

A great way to learn more about your local history, the open day will give you the chance to visit the excavation site, meet the team of archaeologists and get up close to the fascinating finds unearthed at the site, including an array of prehistoric flint, early medieval ceramics, iron nails, and post-medieval pottery and glassware.

The fun-filled day will also feature a range of heritage themed activities from site tours, flint knapping, blacksmithing, spinning and weaving demonstrations to artefact handling and archaeological excavation ‘have a go’ sessions – guaranteed to keep all the family entertained!

The special open day will run two sessions on Saturday 01 July, from 10.30am to 12.30pm, and from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

Please note, cars can be parked in a nearby field accessed via a single-track lane, which is located next to the private residence of 96 Kilmore Road, Lurgan, BT67 9LW. As the lane only permits a single car, it is advisable to arrive punctually to your booked session, and to drive slowly and safely along the lane.
