Council support for Lions glasses recycling appeal

Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council are delighted to support a collection by the Lions International organisation which is helping to provide glasses for people in need.

All nine recycling centres in the borough are now accepting used prescription glasses for adults and children, sunglasses and reading glasses. The glasses can be placed in the collection point in a case/box or just loose. The glasses will then be collected by the Lions Club, repaired as necessary and sent on for reuse by people in other countries.

Lions International are one of the biggest charities in the world and one of their global causes is to restore sight. They finance free eye operations to help restore the sight of many people in the developing world and provide glasses.

Since July 2022, the project has sent 6,500 pairs of glasses for reuse, both helping the sight of others and avoiding unnecessary landfill.
