Council hosts flag-raising ceremony to mark Armed Forces Week

A large delegation, led by Deputy Lord Mayor Councillor Kyle Savage, gathered at Craigavon Civic and Conference Centre on Monday 24 June 2024 for a ceremony to raise the Armed Forces Day flag at the start of Armed Forces Week.

He was joined by NI Veterans Commissioner Danny Kinahan, Royal British Legion Portadown Branch President Major (Retd) Philip J Morrison MBE BEM, representatives of Royal British Legion branches across the borough, the Royal Irish Fusiliers, Regenerate Veterans Group and Councillors Lavelle McIlwrath, Kate Evans, Julie Flaherty, Tim McClelland and Peter Haire.

During Armed Forces Week, the Armed Forces Day flag is raised on buildings and landmarks around the UK. It culminates with Armed Forces Day on Saturday 29 June.

This local event forms part of a nationwide week of acknowledgment and celebration in support of the unwavering commitment to the UK’s Armed Forces community.
