A meeting recently took place to address the recent anti-social behaviour and criminal damage at Lurgan Park.

Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council are taking proactive steps to address anti-social behaviour (ASB) and criminal damage that has been occurring lately in and around Lurgan Park through a collaborative, multi-agency approach.

Recent damage includes incidents of graffiti, damage to public toilets, play park equipment and coffee cart as well as broken windows in nearby apartments.

Lurgan Park is wonderful resource in the heart of the borough and offers not only a stunning park enjoyed by walkers, runners and cyclists 365 days a year, but also a cricket pitch, tennis courts, bowling green, play park and lake.

“Lurgan Park is a cherished resource and it is crucial that we work to protect it for the enjoyment of all residents,” commented Alderman Mark Baxter, Chair of the Policing and Community Safety Partnership.

“The recent rise in anti-social behaviour and criminal damage is being addressed so that the park can continue to be a vibrant, safe space for everyone to enjoy. The park is loved by families, fitness enthusiasts, and people of all ages, and we are committed to ensuring it remains a safe place for all to enjoy.”

Local residents and park-goers are also encouraged to report any incidents of anti-social behaviour or criminal damage they witness, no matter how small – as these small incidents can often escalate to more serious issues.

We would also appeal to parents to know where their children are and talk to them about the consequences of anti-social behaviour and vandalism.  If they are unsupervised, they may get into trouble whether acting intentionally or through association with others.
