Around 150 people recently attended a very successful Community Wellbeing Event in Craigavon Civic Centre, with a wide range of parents, young people and community groups all coming down on the night.

The aim of the event was to improve understanding and awareness of the support services in the area, improve access to these services and for participants to gain valuable advice, information and guidance on the issues of alcohol, drugs and mental health.

Focusing on relaxation, fun and self-care, this event featured health checks, a mocktail bar and goodie bags as well as information stands with details on local support services.

Guest speaker was Theresa Burke who has been tirelessly helping to raise awareness of the devastating and long-lasting impact of drugs following her son’s death in 2009.

“It was great to see so many people of all ages attending this extremely important event and to help educate as many people as we can on issues around drugs, alcohol and mental health,” commented Councillor Mark Baxter, Chair of the PCSP.

“It is vital that we hold these events and that we have these difficult conversations, so that people know there is support out there should they need it.”

The event was organised by Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Policing & Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) in partnership with Southern Drug and Alcohol Connections Team (SDACT).
