If you go down to the woods today, you’re in for a big surprise… From building dens, fire lighting and climbing trees to cooking mud pies, woodland games and nature crafts, a forest school is a school like no other!
Forest school is very much a child-centred approach that allows nature to be the teacher. Under the guidance of trained leaders, children and young people are invited to explore the natural environment through play, supportive risk-taking, learning and socialising together.
Over the course of the programme, children will develop a connection with nature and improve a whole range of skills from personal, social and emotional, to physical development, communication and collaborative learning skills.
Registration is open for forest school at the following locations:
- Lurgan Park: 4-week programme, starting Thursday 26 September (ages 4-6 years).
- Oxford Island: 6-week programme, starting Saturday 12 October (ages 8-11 years).
- Tannaghmore Gardens: 3-day Halloween programme, Wednesday 30 October – Friday 1 November (ages 5-7 years).
The mud will wash off but the memories in nature will last a lifetime!
