Violence against women and girls is a very serious challenge in our society. It is a problem that is hidden in plain sight and every day we see how it is affecting the lives of women and girls, wherever they learn, live, and work.

Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council have been consistently campaigning for an end to violence against women and girls and, together with The Executive Office, are now offering a grants programme designed to assist community groups and voluntary organisations to address this issue and really make a difference.

These grants will provide funding for programmes that aim to prevent violence and drive the society wide action ensuring that everyone understands what violence against women and girls is, and how to prevent it by educating people on positive behaviour.

Grant information sessions are being offered to assist groups in applying for these grants and to help maximise the impact of community-led initiatives that aim to ensure women and girls feel safe everywhere.

“I am a huge advocate for this campaign and in our collective responsibility to end violence against women and girls,” commented the Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Councillor Sarah Duffy.

“These grants will help empower organisations across our borough to raise awareness, educate and play active roles in preventing this violence and invest in a safer, more equitable future for all.

“I would encourage as many local organisations as possible to come along to the information sessions and see how they can be part of this transformation change that must happen.”
