As we approach the festive season, a time traditionally associated with joy, love, and togetherness, there are countless individuals and families within our community who may not feel the warmth of the season.
Christmas can be especially challenging for those facing financial hardship, food insecurity, or isolation. Many families are struggling to put food on the table, while others may find themselves separated from loved ones and battling feelings of loneliness or depression.
This Christmas, why not take the opportunity to make a meaningful difference by reaching out to those who need support — whether through donations, acts of kindness, or simply offering companionship to those who are lonely.
Many people struggle with food poverty throughout the year – and Christmas is no different. Could you make a donation to the ABC Community Food Hub?
This Hub is a centralised donation point and always in need of food supplies. It then provides goods to the four food banks and five social supermarkets in the borough, to ensure that your donations get to those that need them the most.
There are also many other charities across borough who would be so grateful to receive donations as they continue to work tirelessly to help those facing hardship. Why not choose one close to your heart and see how you can help with their appeals?
For many, Christmas can also be a time of isolation, particularly for the elderly, people living alone, or those without family nearby. A simple act of kindness — whether it’s a phone call, a handwritten card, or inviting someone to share a meal — can lift their spirits and remind them that they are not forgotten.
“Christmas can be such a difficult time of year for so many people – so let’s take the time to look beyond our own celebrations and extend a hand to those in need,” commented the Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Councillor Sarah Duffy.
“Food banks and charities are a lifeline for families experiencing financial difficulties. Your donation, no matter how big or small, can make a world of difference and really help those who are struggling. And for those feeling the pain of loneliness, it is amazing what a phone call or a short visit can do to bring a little joy to someone’s day. So let’s come together and spread a little kindness and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.”
