The Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Councillor Sarah Duffy is offering young people living in the borough the opportunity to apply for a Gaeltacht Bursary Scheme.

The scheme will award one £300 and five £100 bursaries to assist Irish language learners with the costs of attending a Gaeltacht course in summer 2025.

The Gaeltacht provides young people with a chance to immerse themselves in an Irish speaking community, increase their knowledge and use of the language by attending classes while also enjoying a wide range of cultural activities including sport, music and dance.

Opening the initiative, Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Councillor Sarah Duffy said:

“I am proud to be able to offer six young people from our borough the opportunity to receive a bursary towards their costs of attending a Gaeltacht course during summer 2025. Attendance at a Gaeltacht college is a fantastic way for young people to further develop their proficiency in the Irish language, which they can use in the future whether for personal, academic or professional purposes.”

Funded by the Office of the Lord Mayor, this scheme is now open for applications and will close on Wednesday 11 December 2024. To access an application form, which includes eligibility criteria, click the link below.
