Lord Mayor Councillor Sarah Duffy announces free parking in council-owned off-street pay-and-display car parks in Armagh City, Banbridge, Lurgan and Portadown on Saturday 7, 14 and 21 December.

Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council is gearing up to attract more shoppers and provide a significant boost to local businesses in retail and hospitality with the return of its well-loved free parking initiative, as the bustling festive shopping season nears.

On Saturday 7, 14 and 21 December all car parking fees will be waived in council-owned off-street pay-and-display car parks across Armagh City, Banbridge, Lurgan, and Portadown.

Additionally, this initiative will also cover Georgian Day in Armagh City on Saturday 30 November, along with the Santa on Tour Christmas lights switch-on events in Portadown, Lurgan and Banbridge on 15, 16 and 29 November, respectively.

Lord Mayor Councillor Sarah Duffy stressed the importance of shopping local this Christmas, stating that seven days free off-street parking is a crucial part of the Council’s Christmas campaign to encourage people to visit and spend more time in the city and town centres.

The Lord Mayor said: “Our aim is to boost footfall and encourage visitors to explore the offerings of the borough for longer during this festive season, which is an essential time of year for local retailers and hospitality providers.

With 1,569 free parking spaces available in 15 council-owned car parks, this initiative seeks to keep local businesses thriving and enhance community engagement this Christmas.”

To help visitors easily find free parking, covers will be placed on parking meters in all designated car parks, and clear signs will be visible at entrances to inform shoppers about the complimentary parking available on specific dates.

It’s important for drivers to note that traffic attendants will continue to monitor car parks during these free parking days, ensuring compliance with all parking regulations, such as preventing out-of-bay parking, to maintain safety for everyone.

Enjoy free parking and come along to experience the magic of Christmas at the Santa on Tour events taking place in the city and towns across the borough this festive season. It’s the perfect opportunity to soak up the cheerful atmosphere and support local businesses while you shop for those extra special Christmas gifts.
