ABC officers organise landmark seminar

A major safety organisation held their first ever seminar in Northern Ireland earlier this month, thanks to the efforts of Environmental Health staff from Armagh City, Banbridge & Craigavon Borough Council.

The Irish Branch of the APEA (The Association for Petroleum and Explosives Administration) held their seminar at the Belmont House Hotel, Banbridge on Thursday 5 September.

Members were welcomed to the event by Deputy Lord Mayor, Cllr Kyle Savage who thanked the Council’s licencing team for hosting the seminar with special thanks given to David Millar who is a member of the Irish Branch Committee of the APEA.

As part of their roles, the Council’s licensing team are responsible for issuing licences to petrol stations across the borough. This work involves carrying out safety checks and inspections, from the construction phase of the petrol station, right through to the day-to-day running of the facility.

Among the aims of the APEA organisation, is the advancement of scientific, technical and legal knowledge required in the administration of the Petroleum & Explosives legislation and to facilitate the interchange of information, ideas and practice.

Those in attendance at the seminar included licensing officers, electricians, consultants, contractors, installers, suppliers and maintenance companies.
