The Lurgan Townscape Heritage Scheme have released a new walking trail for Lurgan Park just in time for National Walking month. The primary 7’s of Lurgan Model Primary School were the first to try the self-guided walking trail which invites locals and visitors alike to explore Lurgan Park, the largest urban park in Northern Ireland.
The trail provides a guide to the historic landmarks associated with the Park, while introducing users to some of the different trees which call the Park home.
Copies of the walking trail can be collected from the Lurgan Town Hall, Lurgan Library, the Lurgan Park gate lodge and community halls throughout the town. A pdf copy can also be downloaded from lurgantownscapeheritage.com/walking-trails

Speaking at the launch Tony Morgan, Project Manager for Lurgan Townscape Heritage commented:
‘Lurgan Park has lots to offer its visitors. The park is over 250 acres in size and boosts many paths for walking, a super play area and large green spaces. The Park can be found tucked in behind the market town of Lurgan and is definitely one of the borough’s ‘hidden gems’. With the brighter days ahead we encourage new and regular visitors to download the walking trail and explore more of what they park has to offer.’
This project is part of the Lurgan Townscape Heritage scheme, an initiative that seeks to repair, refurbish, and restore up to 25 historic buildings that contribute to the character of Lurgan town. The scheme also aims to raise awareness and promote Lurgan’s rich history and heritage through a community-based activities and education programme. The scheme is supported by the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council and The National Heritage Lottery Fund.
