Over 140 people recently attended a very successful Community Wellbeing Event in Armagh City Hotel, with a wide range of parents, young people and community groups all coming down on the night.
The aim of the event was to improve understanding and awareness of the support services working in the area, improve access to services and for participants to gain valuable advice, information and guidance on the issues of alcohol, drugs and mental health. There was also an opportunity to get involved in workshops such as health checks and body relaxation techniques.
Guest Speaker on the night was Antrim Hurler Domhnall Nugent from the podcast ‘Let’s Face It’ who delivered an inspiring talk in which he discussed his own personal experiences with drugs and alcohol, and the steps he took to overcome his addiction.
His honesty in shedding light on such an important and often challenging topic not only inspired, but also provided hope to those who may be facing similar struggles.
“It was great to see so many people attending this extremely important event and to help educate as many people as we can on these important issues – and in a way that allowed them to take it on board in their own time,” commented Councillor Clare McConville-Walker.
“Issues around alcohol, drugs and mental health are so emotive but it is vital that we have these conversations and that people know there is support out there should they need it.”
The event was organised by Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Policing & Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) in partnership with Southern Drug and Alcohol Connections Team (SDACT).
