Over 2500 people descended on Lurgan Park last weekend to enjoy a fabulous free family fun day to celebrate Good Relations Week 2023!
The theme of Good Relations Week 2023 was ‘Together’ and how togetherness can make a difference to breaking down barriers and building more inclusive communities. It also continued to build upon the progress already achieved in pursuit of empowering change within our communities.
Thankfully, the weather was on side for the event and families were able to enjoy everything from inflatables, a soft play bus and nerf wars to balloon modelling, face painting and much more!
There was also lots of information and advice available on the importance of good relations, and how working together is the most effective way to tackle some of the problems our communities face today.
The Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Alderman Margaret Tinsley had a great day getting involved in the activities!
“What a fantastic event to celebrate Good Relations Week and it was wonderful to see Lurgan Park filled with thousands of people all having a great time together!” said the Lord Mayor.
“I know a lot of behind the scenes work went into getting this event off the ground and to see it supported by individuals, families and groups from right across the borough was simply incredible to see!
“Good Relations work is ongoing every week, month and year, with the aim to bring people together, to share experiences, to learn from each other and to build a sustained and shared future in our communities – and I thank everyone who came along on Saturday, to show their support and have fun, together!”
Chris Gardner, Director of Good Relations and T:BUC Division TEO commented: “Initiatives such as Good Relations Week are an integral part of our continuing community strategy and are especially important at times of economic challenge. This programme plays a vital role in bringing communities together to continue the dialogues, which helps ensure a peaceful, fair, equal and prosperous society for all people.
“On behalf of everyone involved I want to thank the Community Relations Council and all the organisations, community groups and individuals dedicating time and energy to producing fantastic events during Good Relations Week.”
This initiative is supported through The Executive Office District Council Good Relations Programme.
