Armagh and Craigavon welcomed the return of the popular parkrun at the Palace Demesne and City Park for the first time in over a year, after they were suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
On Saturday 26th June the weekly timed 5km runs were back in operation across Northern Ireland. Participants at parkrun events have been advised to adhere to a number of measures – to practice social distancing and not to high-five other participants.
Welcoming the safe return of the parkrun Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough, Alderman Glenn Barr said,
“I am delighted to see the return of the parkrun events across Northern Ireland and particularly in our borough with two of our fabulous facilities in Armagh and Craigavon hosting the weekly event. It is brilliant to see people back out on a Saturday morning enjoying their exercise which is so important for our physical and mental wellbeing.
“Parkrun is a voluntary led event and I want to commend the volunteers and teams who give so much of their time organising the parkruns for our local community to enjoy.
Parkrun is a free weekly 5km timed run, that occur every Saturday morning at 9.30am and welcomes participants of all ability, no matter what your pace.
