There was plenty of laughter and fun last week at the official opening of the newly refurbished play park in Lord Lurgan Memorial Park!

A total of £100,000 was invested into the renewal of this play area following a period of consultation with the local community. Catering for children and young people up to the age of 14, this park has a mixture of equipment including a roundabout, sensory panels, basket swing, harness swing, toddler and flat swings, a junior and senior unit, springer and spinning bowl.

In celebration of the hard work that enabled this play park to come to fruition, the Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon, Alderman Glenn Barr came along to cut the all-important ribbon.

“What a brilliant morning we all had launching this wonderful play park – I think I had as much fun as the children from Tannaghmore Primary School!” commented the Lord Mayor.

“Play is central to the lives of children and young people and I am so proud of the commitment we have made to the next generation through our £4.75m Play Strategy. This was park number 21 out of 44 to be overhauled and I can’t wait to see the rest over the next few years!”

This eight-year strategy puts ABC Council at the forefront of health, recreation and leisure in Northern Ireland, actively championing play to help improve understanding of its critical importance to children and young people.

Children have been enjoying the new equipment over the last few months but the official opening was only able to take place recently due to the pandemic.

Farrans were the lead contractor for the works while sub-contractor Garden Escapes – a specialist playground equipment company – supplied and installed the new equipment.
