Views sought on Banbridge Town Centre Public Realm Improvements

As part of the ongoing commitment to urban development and economic regeneration, Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council will be delivering the next stage of the Banbridge Town Centre Public Realm Scheme, providing high quality enhancements to the current streetscape.

Proposed improvements include; high quality physical enhancements with new pavements, lighting, tree planting and street furniture to strengthen the town centres “Sense of Place” and unique characteristics; the creation of new civic spaces for events; improving access throughout the town centre for all pedestrian users; improvements to pedestrian linkages to adjacent car parks and sympathetically enhancing key landmarks including Downshire Bridge and Bann Bridge.

In advance of planning applications being submitted as part of the development process, the council are seeking public views and suggestions on the proposed works to help inform the final designs.

Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions, public consultation events are not possible in person at this present time, however visual presentations and further information of the proposed designs and process, plus a short survey to gather public opinion, can be accessed online at the link below.

RPS Group, who are undertaking the consultation process on behalf of the council will also be hosting a special telephone consultation clinic on Wednesday 10 February 2021 from 12 noon – 7pm where you can speak with members of the design team by calling T: 0203 196 6488 to discuss any aspect of the project.

For those who cannot access the online consultation, members of the public can request details of the proposals including a hard copy of the survey by contacting the RPS Group on 0203 196 6488.

Speaking of the consultation process, Lord Mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough, Councillor Kevin Savage said: “It’s important we provide an opportunity for those in our community to have a say in how our town centres are developed and improved. The Banbridge Town Centre Public Realm Scheme is an significant piece of urban regeneration and this current consultation process will give each of us the opportunity to engage in the process and help create a vibrant and welcoming environment to live, work and visit. I would encourage as many people as possible to have their say and help shape the future of Banbridge Town Centre”.

The online information and survey will be available to the public until Friday 26 February 2021. All other comments and feedback must be received by Friday 12th March 2021.
